Bio

Prof. Grasselli is Full Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Milan. He is the Director of the Adult Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan (Italy), a tertiary referral Center for the treatment of patients with acute respiratory failure and with extensive research experience in the fields of mechanical ventilation, respiratory physiology and extracorporeal respiratory support. He is one of the coordinators of the Italian ECMO Network and he is has coordinated the Regional Network of COVID-19 ICUs in Lombardy. He has been the Italian National Representative in the Council of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and he is currently the Secretary-elect of the Society. He has chaired the Intensive Care Section of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy (SIAARTI). His main reseach activity focuses on respiratory physiology, pathophysiology of respiratory failure, ARDS, extracorporeal respiratory support, sepsis and nosocomial infections.
