Bio

Dr. Files is section chief and an associate professor of pulmonary, critical care, allergy and immunologic diseases; and an associate professor of gerontology and geriatric medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is co-director of the Critical Illness, Injury and Recovery Research Center.

Dr. Files is board certified in pulmonary and critical care with a focus on acute respiratory failure, sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome. His research focuses on translational aspects of critical care using preclinical and clinical approaches. His program focuses on the elucidation of mechanisms of muscle wasting in pneumonia, sepsis and ARDS. His team conducts clinical trials in acute and critically ill patient populations. The goal of this work is to discover new treatments that reduce organ injury, disability and death from severe critical illness.
