Catherine Bellissimo

Catherine Bellissimo is a Postdoctoral Researcher at University Health Network under the supervision of Dr. Ewan Goligher. She earned her PhD from York University in Toronto, Ontario, where she investigated the effects of mitochondrial-targeted compounds in preclinical models of skeletal muscle wasting. Her current research focuses on the evolution of respiratory and peripheral muscle dysfunction during critical illness, including the mechanisms underlying muscle atrophy and weakness. Her work also aims to identify and evaluate novel therapeutic interventions to preserve muscle health and improve recovery outcomes in critically ill patients.
