About

Discover PANTHER, an adaptive platform trial revolutionizing ARDS treatment through precision medicine. Explore innovative interventions improving outcomes for critically ill patients worldwide.

Adaptive Platform Trials

Traditional trials lack flexibility, they tend to compare a single treatment against standard of care or a placebo which can slow down learning.

Adaptive platform trials are more flexible and efficient. They utilise information collected during the trial to modify the trial design according to pre-specified rules. Adaptive platform trials such as PANTHER help to overcome the challenges of a traditional trial.

The PANTHER Trial

PANTHER (Precision medicine Adaptive Network platform Trial in Hypoxaemic acutE respiratory failuRe) is a Bayesian adaptive platform randomized clinical trial studying novel interventions to improve outcomes for patients with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure.

The Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a common severe lung condition in the intensive care unit (ICU) that makes it hard to breathe. Inflammation is a natural process that helps our body fight off harmful substances like infections. However, sometimes it can go into overdrive and damage the lungs. About 1 out of every 4 people in the ICU who need a machine to help them breathe (a ventilator) have ARDS. ARDS causes significant death and disability. There are no proven effective medicines to treat it.

PANTHER will be run in several countries around the world in order to find important answers for patients that are critically ill. To find further information on the trial in the different countries in which it runs please select the relevant country on the country tab of this website.
